Ahmed is testing the boundary between physics and metaphysics. He asked if I could explain what electromagnetic fields are made of that makes it so they can exert forces and store energy and so on. I responded with two different non-answers. See David Hume and George Berkeley for lengthy exploration of such quandaries.
Next thing I know, Alex is asking what it is about foam that makes it able to deaden sound. This time, we could talk about what it takes to efficiently absorb energy. At least a sketch of an answer.
